#Monthly wrapup Novemeber 2019 and #weekly wrapup – #Blackfriday #Tbr etc.

I can not believe it is December already?!This year is going by way to fast for me. I feel like I have not done a whole lot, tho I did manage to read more books this year.

I am curious, who remembers when Black Friday was actually Black Friday? When people actually stood in line at 5am in the morning no matter how nasty the weather was? I myself, have never understood that concept. I mean what could be that important to get? Course, I have social anxiety, I hate the malls with a passion. Tho, I am torn, cause I like to see real stores succeed, I just find it is easier to deal with shopping online.  They said this year people spent 7.4Billion dollars online?! I mean, it is not even Cyber Monday yet, so why do we have Cyber Monday? I still see Black Friday ads all over, and I do not even have a tv.

Now, speaking of my hate for shopping in stores, I will go to a bookstore, they are like a safe haven to me. Sadly, one of my favorites is no longer around, and another is in jeopardy, from the sound of it, thanks to Amazon. I will be writing a blog about this particular subject soon. But my favorite bookstore is Half Price Bookstore. I am always amazed at what I can find there and for the price. Yes, they are mostly used books, but as long as it is not torn, I do not care.

Speaking of books, I am currently reading Candy Cane Murder by Joanne Fluke, Leslie Meier and Laura Levine. Loving it so far. Will be blogging about my December tbr pile soon as well.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, for those in the States! Remember, play it safe and when you are shopping, I have seen a lot of news about fights already.

#HappyThanksgiving! – Fav book, dish, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Or as I am now saying…Merry Thanksgiving! lol

I found another reason to enjoy being single and living alone. You can eat a pumpking roll with your coffee at 5am on Thanksgiving morning and not feel guilty about it. hehe

Since I do not have a working tv, I can not watch the parade anymore, and I hate football these days, so I am coming up with a new tradition. Reading or do you say listening to a Thanksgiving themed audiobook. This year I chose Janet Evanovich’s Thanksgiving. I admit I read it years ago, but do not remember it much and this time I am doing the audio book version. Will write a review when I am done. But she is my favorite author, so it seemed like a logical choice.

I admit I have mixed feelings about this holiday, tho to be fair, it seems like a lot of people are offended easily these days. I think am now thinking of this holiday as a way to give thanks to Mother Earth for her bounty and beauty. It saddens me how many people take her for granted and abuse her. I admit I was one of those people, but will be trying my best not to do that anymore. So, I am thankful to Gaia for her and pray that we will learn to take better care of her.

One thing I look forward too is Jellied Cranberry sauce. I have to have that every year. I noticed they sell it all year long now, that sortof bums me out. lol But, I only eat it on Thanksgiving, I am weird like that. hehe

So, how about you… do you have a favorite dish and/or traditions? Also, what about any Thanksgiving themed books(I am always looking for new reads) Thanks bunches!

Merry Thanksgiving! Renee aka Stardreamer

Winter time fun on a budget

I can not believe that Thanksgiving is this week?! I mean it seemed like Summer started yesterday. We have had weird weather, one minute it is almost 60 the next it is almost snowing?Apparently, this has been the coldest November since the mid 70s. SInce I am broke all the time(Still waiting on my ssdi letter), I try to come up with things to do to keep me from being bored. My problem is lack of mobility, I can not walk far without getting exhausted and week legs(still not sure what is wrong with me). But, maybe I can start doing these… and maybe someone else might find the list useful, that is my goal anyways.

  1. Reading – Starting with the obvious, I read a lot thanks to the library and my kindle. I figured out how to do the text to speech(my eyesight sucks) so now I can read more books. I will be making a Winter themed tbr blog soon.
  2. Blogging – Trying to blog more. How people blog once a day is beyond me. Tho, part of the problem for me is arthritis. I am lucky if I get one a week, gonna try for more this next month.
  3. Writing -As with blogging, my arthritis has slowed me down, but I have a novel to write, and lots of short stories stuck in my head. Sadly, the microphone hates my speech impairment, so I can not use that.
  4. Pinterest -Still trying to figure that one out, sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not. Tho, I admit I have fun collecting ideas, in case I ever get to move out of here.
  5. Spotify – I love to make playlists, and they do not give us a limit, as far as I can tell, for the free version. Lately, I have been hooked on listening to Seth MacFarlane(the Orville, Family Guy) I had no idea he sang until recently, now I am
  6. Decorations– I am using food for decorations this year, and thanks to Pinterest I can find a lot of ways to use them, like stars made out of cinnamon sticks or pretzel sticks or Oranges decorated with cloves.
  7. Meal a mug -If ound these great meal a mug recipes, that I would love to try. Since I do not have a working stove I just use my microwave and mug/tupperwear. You can make anything from eggs to cake, who knew?

So, just cause I am sinble and on a budget does not mean I have to be bored to tears. I am sure I can come up with more ideas, if I do I will blog about it. I like to think of this blog as a journal, but hoping maybe others might find some ideas I post useful.

Have a great week!

Libraries: A love/hate relationship

Thanks to being broke beyond broke, I have been using the library a lot more these days.  But, I never thought I would say this, there is a reason to hate libraries. Ok, hate might be a strong word, dislike maybe?

Here is my pros and cons list for libraries.

  1.  You can read, listen, watch and play things for free.
  2. You can get hard copies as well as digital ones.
  3. You can learn new skills for free. So no college loans needed.
  4. You can have help with researching anything for free.
  5. You can spend a whole day there and not get bored for free.
  6. You can make new friensds there, like by joining a book club.
  7. You can have help in finding a job, place to live, etc. for free.
  8. Some have help for seniors and/or mobility impaired for free.
  9. Free computer use and or wifi use.

  1.  The books, dvds, etc are only to borrow not to keep.
  2.  You can only borrow a certain amount.
  3.  There is a time limit, so if you can not finish a book, you still have to return it and hope that you can renew, but sometimes you have to wait. That is my least favorite part.
  4. You have to have a library card or memorize the card number.
  5. You need an ID and address to get the card.

As you can see, the pros outway the cons. The main thing that frustrates me the most is the timing issue, I am a slow reader. Tho, lately I have been doing the audiobooks on overdrive, still I have trouble reading it in time tho, thanks to my poor health.

But, the libraries have always been a safe haven for me. Ever since I was a little girl, I would hide there to get away from my abusive Mother. Later, when I had to live on the streets, it was a safe place to go during the day and kill time and find help by using their free wifi. Because of that, I am always advocating for them. I know my dream job was to work in a library, tho not able to these days, even if I could get that job.

Now, I am sure I missed a few pros and/or cons, but those were what came to mind.

Time for me to go find a book to listen too.

Peace, Renee aka Stardreamer

Who remembers the original chat rooms, like AOL? Back in those days you did not have to have an app to be able to chat. Even facebook had a messenger that you could use on the site, but now everyone has to have an app.

I use a cheap kindle, not a lot of storage. My fb messenger did an update, not by my choice, and it got screwy. Plus, it was taking up a lot of room, so I deleted it. But, I can not access fb messenger without it now, why? I can not seem to find any messengers compatible with Kindle, cept the google one, and that is an app too.

I know they say technology is supposed to make things easier, but lately it does not seem that way to me. I miss the old days, before apps were invented.

Heck, if I could afford a stamp and stationary(long story on the broke part) I would chat the old fashioned way and have pen pals. I used to do that, and kind of miss it. Maybe, when(trying to think positive) I get my SSDI I can start pen palling again.

I am trying really hard to get off facebook, but can not seem to get a reasonable way to keep up with my few friends and family. I may just have to bite the bullet and stay there for now. It is just getting harder for me to use these days.

But, you can alays reach me at …. I am on the hangout thing, just not sure how it works.

So, curious… you pen pal or have you ever done it? I am going to have to figure out a way of doing that again. Sometimes, it would be nice to have something in the mailbox besides junkmail. lol

Luv and hugs, Stardreamer

25 #Christmas Songs for your #Holiday playlist

The one beautiful thing about living alone is, you can listen to whatever music you like without worrying about irritating someone or having them judge you for your odd taste.

Since I am broke, I like to find free hobbies. Lately, I  have been hooked on making playlists on Spotify. It is amazing how many they let you have for their free version, unlike Iheart. So, I made all kinds of playlists and found some cool new music to listen too in the process.

Even tho I am a witch, I still love Christmas, heck it was not even a Christian holiday at first, one of these days I will post the real history behind it. Lately, I started listening to my Christmas playlist, I started listening to it around July. I mean some people listen to Irish music all the time(St. Patrick’s Day) and some listen to Halloweeny(is that a word?) music all the time, so why not Christmas music? Like one of the songs says…”Why can’t every day be like Christmas?”, mainly cause we can not afford it. lol But we can listen to the music. Christain songs drive me nuts, so I made a playlist with non Christain songs, and you would be surprised by how many there are. Here are 25 songs, not in any particular order.

  1. The Grinch who Stole Christmas(My fav)
  2. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
  3. Frosty the Snowman
  4. Silver and Gold(from Rudolph)
  5. Silver Bells
  6. Sleigh Ride
  7.  I’ll be Home for Christmas
  8. Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow
  9. Deck the Halls
  10. Jingle Bells
  11. Jingle Bell Rock
  12. Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
  13. It’s a Marshmallow World
  14. Hard Candy Christmas
  15. Christmas Cookies(George Strait)
  16. Merry Christmas Strait to You(George Strait)
  17. We Wish You a Merry Christmas
  18. Mele Kalikimaka(Merry Christmas)
  19. Little Jack Frost Get Lost (Seth MacFarlane – my newest obsession)
  20. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas
  21. Pretty Paper(Willie Nelson)
  22. Santa Clause is Coming to Town
  23. Christmas in New Orleans (Louis Armstrong) (bucket list)
  24. Christmas Island(Jimmy Buffett)
  25. If Every Day Could be Just Like Christmas

Hmmm….There is so much more I could have added, maybe I should do it by genres? The songs that do not have an artist name, I left blank on purpose. There are so many singers singing them, figured it would depend on who you like the best.

Ok, and one other reason I listen to Christmas music…my neighbors can be rather loud and annoying sometimes(very thin walls). I figured if I can hear them, they probably can hear me, so I put my Christmas music on as loud as possibe(cheap kindle) hoping they get the hint they are being too loud. lol Yes, I am evil. haha

Here is hoping that Every Day can be Like Christmas, at least in our minds. I know, I know, but a gal can dream, can’t she?

Peace! Renee
